April has flown by, even though there were few really sunny days. Often I still went on the Smarttrainer, which usually collects dust in the corner from April to October.
Despite the non-existent spring, the preparation for the Transcontinental in July went on as planned. Slowly the form is getting better and there were some nice days with sunshine. Only the temperatures left something to be desired.
In the middle of April we went to the Ardennes for the first time this year. Again and again fascinates the round, which contains some of the well-known climbs of the cycling classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège. But we saved the Redoute for next time.
Some training rides took place with the gravel bike. Due to high water, some routes were closed at the beginning of April, but the light that evening was fascinating, and will certainly remain in my memory for a long time.
On April 30th a Gravelfondo race took place in Valkenburg for the World Championship qualification in Italy, my first Gravel race. I don’t really feel at home on gravel and off-road, but the qualification still jumped out after a 12th place in the age group.
With about 1600 km of training in April I am really satisfied.
What else happened? An interview with the Aachener Zeitung, and an article that will be published on May 1. The online version is here. Also, I have a new extra bag for bikepacking now in the fund, which I will test in mid-May on the ride to Munich. More about this later…
Your Bert.
